自分のニッチを見つけ出す方法

自分の好きなことを商売にする、なんか素敵なことのように聞こえます。このセリフに疑問を持ったのは5年ほど以前です。ひょっと気づいたんですが、好きなことを商売にしたら天国のように感じるかもしれないけれど、一方では地獄じゃないか！と思ったんですよ。
ぼくはジャズピアノが好きです。若い頃一生懸命習いに行きました。バンドも紹介してもらって某ナイトクラブで口開けから２ステージほどピアノの横に座って聞かせてもらっていた時期があります。でもそのとき思ったんです、俺って酔っ払いは嫌いなダナ。この気持ちは今も変わりません。今はさらにハードルが高くなってそもそも酒飲みが嫌いです。
自分は飲めないんで、そのせいもあるでしょうが。で、ようするのジャズはやりたいけど酔っ払いと付き合うのはごめんだ、と傲慢にも考えたわけです。自分の好きなことをしてお金をいただきながら、なお客のえり好みをする、なんてぇのは とても贅沢な話です。ここまで話を敷衍してきて好きなことを商売にするのは限界がある、と考えたわけです。若かったんですねぇ・・・。
インターネットの神話に｢好きなことをビジネスにする」というのがあります。ニッチを探す方策の第一ステップとしてこれを推奨しています。でも正直な話あなたの好きなことをしてお金を稼げると思いますか？じっくりお考えいただきたい。生活するということは家賃を払い、飯を食い、多少の娯楽を楽しみ、そのうえ服も着なくてはならないし、目が悪くなればめがねも欲しいし、病気になれば医者へ行かなければなりません。
一人暮らし、月収20万円、都会では限界ですかね。学生時代ピアノ弾きのアルバイトをしてました。その月収は初任給のほぼ倍でした。だからチャンスはあったんです。でも当時芸能人の地位は低く、会社員の地位が圧倒的に高いせいもあって、会社員になりました。会社員になって30年経過してみれば、芸能人の地位は上がり、その分つまらない社会的制裁も増えて、でも圧倒的な収入の差に愕然となるときがありましたが、時すでに遅くピアノ弾きで身を立てることはほぼ不可能・・・。
と思ったのですが、インターネットの与えてくれたチャンスを生かさねばと決心して、ジャズピアノサイトを立ち上げてレッスンを売って見ました。うれたんですねぇこれが。いやいや生活できるほどの規模にはなりません。でも売れた、ということがうれしいじゃないですか。
そこで浮気者のぼくの考え方は180度基へ戻ったのです。すなわち好きなことをしてビジネスはできるのさ！ただし、ただしですよ、少しばかり計画が必要です。すなわち、学生時代に思っていたのはジャズピアノ弾きとして有名になり、ナイトクラブ、レストラン、コンサートに出演する、という絵しか描けなかったんですが、それほど肩肘張ることはないわけで、理論的裏づけのあるきっちりしたアドリブができれば、方々で再度万としての活躍の余地があり、レコーディングセッションでのお付き合いがあり、やがて2－3枚レコードを出したらジャズピアノ教室を開けばよろしい、そんな設計ができたはずなんです。
でも当時はしゃかりきのトッププレーヤーでなくては食えない、と信じていたんですよ。だからお付き合いで仕事をもらうなどというのは埒外でして、ましてがきどもを集めてピアノ教室をやるなどという考えは露ほども、というといささか嘘になりますが、えらく格好の悪いことである、と考えていました。
で、今回のお話は何がテーマか、というとそういうことなんです。プロダクツ・ファンネルを考えることです。入り口から出口までしっかり路線を引いて、その上で好きなことをビジネスを設計計画すべきであり、それでこそ自分の好きなこと＝自分のニッチを創造して生活して行けるのだ、ということを申し上げたかったわけです。
そのための参考書が「セールス・ファンネルを創造して顧客を高みへ引き上げる」というわけです。そもそもインターネットであろうが街のビジネスであろうが、ビジネスの本質に変わりはありません。ならば「継続は力なり」であり、「商いは飽きないに通じる」であり、「論より証拠」であり、「石の上にも3年」なのです。
そして好きなことを続けるためには己を知らなくてはなりません。なぜなら今好きなことが本当に自分の好きなことか、今後20年同じ事を続けられるのか、これらの問題を正面において見つめなければなりません。おっと、そういえばこちらにご紹介した本に触発されて提案しました。ぜひ御一読を。
